(un)Reliable Recordings presents Michal Martyniuk’s “New Things remixes EP”

Already a rising star of the global neo-soul and jazz scenes, Michal Martyniuk’s latest project sees him go all-in on the dancefloor.
The Poland-born, New Zealand-based pianist, composer and producer has enlisted a who’s who of remix talent to reinterpret two of the best-loved tracks from his 2021 Reconciliation EP.
The first package showcases remixes of New Things, starring the intimate vocals of fellow Pole YaniKa. Produced by Adam Kabacinski and mixed by Mike Patto (Reel People), the original deftly fuses analog synths, acoustic piano and machine rhythms to create a unique blend of modern jazz, electronica and beats.
US legend Eric Kupper headlines the EP with a super-smooth deep house interpretation. Kupper’s take remains faithful to the verse/chorus structure of the original and grooves on a foundation of rolling percussion and gently insistent warm stabs. The addition of a woozy lead and clever deployment of gentle breakdowns tips his mix towards instant classic status. This is an end-of-the-night deep house anthem in-waiting.
Fellow veterans Reed & Radley’s stripped-back take blurs the lines between deep house and nu-disco. It’s influenced by their enduring love for the French house sounds of the late 1990s/early 2000s. Driven by an octave-interval baseline and skippy, fizzing hats, their use of the vocal is minimal and hypnotic, with lush string lines providing a top layer of warmth.
Aspiring Kiwi producer MissB completes the package with a more electronic take. Reflecting her status as a sought-after festival act, she builds tension with a slow-burning arrangement that teases and tempts before letting rip with a euphoric climax.

Meet the remixers:
Eric Kupper
Since early work with stone-cold legends such as David Morales, Frankie Knuckles, Arthur Baker and Mark Kamins, Eric’s played on, remixed and/or produced more than 2000 records. His work with Def Mix Productions in the late 1980s and early 1990s is considered to be part of the foundation for house music as it exists today. As a remixer he’s tackled everyone from Diana Ross to Miley Cyrus - via 808 State and New Order. He’s released three albums under the name "Eric Kupper presents K-Scope" and runs the renowned Hysteria Records label. A globally in-demand DJ, he was one of the first five Hed Kandi selectors before leaving the label in 2006.

Reed & Radley
With little fuss, this duo have built a well-regarded body of work since they started collaborating 20 years ago. Key releases have included the Foundations EP on seminal UK deep house label DiY Discs and a string of recordings for their own New Zealand-based Grass Green Recordings label. Also releasing more disco-tinged material as Monkey Boots, they had tracks on both volumes of key Kiwi house compilation Sun Valley Sounds, released by (un)Reliable’s predecessor, Reliable Recordings.

MissB
Two decades into her DJ career, MissB is now making waves as a producer. Since her debut EP, The Temple, in 2021 she’s remixed a string of leading Kiwi artists, including cusp, Max Maxwell, Kennedy and House of Downtown. Her productions combine a love of classical and club music, and typically feature hypnotic synth work and signature quirky percussive and vocal elements.

Michal Martyniuk
Michal Martyniuk has been an active and highly acclaimed musician throughout his career. After releasing his debut album ‘Odyssey’ in 2016 under the After ‘Ours moniker (a collaboration with fellow producer Nick Williams, and featuring heavyweight contributions from the likes of Sharlene Hector, Kevin Mark Trail, Matt Nanai and Nathan Haines), he came in second place at the prestigious Made In New York jazz competition in 2018, leading him to be nominated for the Fryderyk 2019 - Jazz Discovery Of The Year award in 2019, and be named a finalist for Jazz Artist of the Year at the Aotearoa Music Awards for his album Resonate in 2020. Michal went on to release his ‘Reconciliation’ EP through (un)Reliable’s parent label Bigpop Records in June 2021.

(un)Reliable Recordings
(un)Reliable Recordings reboots one of Aotearoa/New Zealand’s most important record labels for a new generation of producers and clubbers.
As Reliable, it released four ground-breaking compilations of music, tracking, championing and celebrating the development of homegrown producers of club music.
(un)Reliable will showcase a fresh wave of talent while providing an outlet for more established names, joining the dots between then and now, giving context to New Zealand’s electronic pioneers.
